Acclimation Protocols for Caridina
My Store Admin
LOG_DATE:High-grade Caridina shrimp require highly stable, biosecure ecosystems. They are highly sensitive to rapid fluctuations in TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), temperature, and nitrate levels. Dropping new livestock directly into a running system is the fastest way to trigger a systemic crash.
To ensure optimal survival rates, a strict drip-acclimation protocol must be executed every time new livestock is acquired.
The Drip Protocol:
-
Temperature Sync: Float the sealed transport bag in the destination tank for 20 minutes to equalize temperatures.
-
Transfer: Empty the transport water and the livestock into a sterile, dedicated acclimation container.
-
The Drip Line: Secure a length of airline tubing from the main tank to the container. Tie a knot in the tubing to restrict flow.
-
Calibration: Start the siphon. Adjust the knot until the system drips at exactly 1 to 2 drops per second.
-
Volume Target: Allow the system to run until the water volume in the container has tripled. This usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
Once acclimated, use a dedicated shrimp net to transfer the livestock into the tank. Never pour the transport water into your biosecure system, as this is the primary vector for introducing external pathogens and pests.
