Working with Seiryu Stone and Dragon Wood
My Store Admin
LOG_DATE:A successful aquascape relies on striking a balance between organic and inorganic materials, not just visually, but chemically. Pairing Seiryu stone with Dragon Wood creates a highly textured, dynamic environment, particularly in shallow, nano-form factors like a 5.9-gallon rimless system.
However, deploying these materials requires an understanding of their impact on system parameters.
Seiryu Stone Logs: True Seiryu stone is calcium-based. As it sits in your system, it will slowly leach carbonates, raising both your KH (carbonate hardness) and your pH. For livestock that require acidic environments, this can trigger system instability. Regular water changes with remineralized RO water are required to keep parameters nominal.
Dragon Wood Logs: To counter the alkaline creep of the stone, Dragon Wood is highly effective. Like most driftwood, it releases tannins and humic acids into the water column. While this may temporarily tint the water a slight amber color, these acids act as a natural buffer, slowly driving the pH back down.
Before introducing either material to a biosecure nursery, rigorous preparation is mandatory. Boil all Dragon Wood to force it to sink and purge excess tannins. Scrub all Seiryu stone with a stiff brush to remove quarry dust before final placement.
